Mechanism of Action of Piroxicam Topical
Drug inhibits the biosynthesis and release of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzyme in a reversible manner. In this way it reduces the PG concentration in the synovial fluid. It also reduce platelet aggregation (prolong bleeding time), production of IgM rheumatoid factor, chemotaxis of leukocytes and ratio of T-helper to T- suppressor lymphocytes.
