Oxybutynin
Distribution- Widely distributed in the body. 91%-93% bound to the plasma proteins. It also distributed to the breast milk
Metabolism - 94% undergo first pass metabolism. It also undergo hepatic metabolism.
Excretion- Excreted through urine.
2. Sensitivity to bright light
3. Blurred vision
4. Dry eyes
5. Decreased sweating
6. Flushing
7. Upset stomach
8. Drowsiness
9. Fever
10. Fast pulse
11. Heart palpitations
12. Restlessness
13. Seizures
14. Difficulty urinating
15. Hallucinations (especially in children)
2. Blockage of the urinary tract (difficulty urinating)
3. Blockage in the intestines
4. Untreated angle closure glaucoma
5. Untreated narrow anterior chamber angles
6. Partial or complete obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract
7. Paralytic ileus
8. Intestinal atony of the elderly or debilitated patient
9. Megacolon
10. Complicating ulcerative colitis
11. Severe colitis
12. Myasthenia gravis.
13. Obstructive neuropathy
14. Unstable cardiovascular status in acute hemorrhage
2. Do not crush, chew, or break the extended release form of oxybutynin
Use with caution in patients with
1. Liver disease
2. Kidney disease
3. Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
4. Difficulty swallowing solids or liquids
5. Reflux disease
6. Glaucoma
7. Myasthenia gravis
8. Ulcerative colitis
9. Thyroid problems
10. High blood pressure
11. Hiatal hernia
12. Enlargement of the prostate.
13. Any work which require mental alertness such as driving and machine operation
2. Urgency and frequency in the unstable bladder
3. Nocturnal enuresis
For treatment of bladder problems:
Suspension:
Adults and children above12 years: 5 mg 2 or 3 times a day.
Children 5 to 12 years of age - 5 mg 2 or 3 times a day. The dose is usually not more than 15 mg a day.
Extended release tablets:
Adults and children above 12 years: 5 mg to 10 mg once daily.
Children (6 to 12 years of age) - 5 mg once daily. The dose is usually not more than 20 mg per day.
