About Ketoprofen
NSAID, propionic acid derivative, Analgesic,antipyretic,antiinflammatory.
Mechanism of Action of Ketoprofen
It inhibits cyclo oxygenase enzymes both COX1 and COX2.These cyclooxygenase enzyme catalyses the synthesis of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid in the tissue. These inhibition produces its analgesic, antipyretic and anti inflammatory effects. It can also stabilize the lysosomal membrane. It is a Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug. It is a propionic acid derivative.
Pharmacokinets of Ketoprofen
Absorption-Well absorbed orally. It enters to the synovial fluid and cross the placenta and blood brain barrier.
Distribution-Widely distributed in the body.99% of it bound to the plasma protein.
Metabolism - By hydroxylation and glucoronide conjugation in liver.
Excretion-It is excreted through urine and bile.

Oral - 1-2 hours
intramuscular - 1-2 hours

Oral - 6 to 8 hours
intramuscular - 3-4 hours

Oral-
In adults 100-200mg tab for rheumatoid disorder; 25-60mg every 6-8 hrs for pain.
In intramuscular injection it is 50-100mg every 4 hrs.

Effects of Missed Dosage of Ketoprofen
Take the missed dose as soon as noticed and if it is the time for next dose then skip the missed dose. Continue the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Effects of Overdose of Ketoprofen
Induce emesis, and needs lavage with sodium bicarbonate followed by activated charcoal and cathartic. Supportive measures will be needed.
