A synthetic anabolic steroid, Antianemic(Aplastic anemia), angioedema.
Mechanism of Action of Oxymetholone
It is an anabolic steroid which have higher anabolic and lower androgenic activity. It is a synthetic testosterone derivative which have anabolic androgenic ratio >1.It binds with cytoplasmic testosterone receptors in androgen responsive organs and tissues and forms hormone receptor complex. This hormone-receptor complex binds with DNA and enhances DNA transcription and formation of mRNA which ultimately leads to modification of protein synthesis. It exerts anabolic effect on skeleton and skeletal muscles and also accelerates erythropoiesis. The drug exerts its pharmacological action by elevating the levels of hormone erythropoietin involved in the production of red blood cells. It promotes extensive gain in body mass though water retention and also maintains positive nitrogen balance.

Anticoagulants: may increase sensitivity to anticoagulants leading to bleeding disorders, therefore dose adjustment required.

Store at room temperature at range of 15 to 30 degree C.
Effects of Missed Dosage of Oxymetholone

Empty stomach by induced emesis and gastric lavage. Reduce absorption by administration of activated charcoal. Provide symptomatic treatment and supportive measures.
