Carmustine

About Carmustine
A mustard gas(a-chloro- nitrosourea derivative),alkylating agent, DNA Adduct-Forming Agent, A systemic antineoplastic agent.
Mechanism of Action of Carmustine
Carmustine is a nitrosourea derivative which undergoes hydrolysis in vivo to form reactive metabolites. These metabolites cause alkylation and cross linking of DNA. This process slows down the synthesis of cancer cells. This drug has been shown to affect a number of cellular processes including DNA, protein synthesis, processing of ribosomal and nucleoplasmic messenger RNA, DNA based component structure, the rate of DNA synthesis and DNA polymerase activity. These all processes is cell cycle-phase nonspecific.
