Typical Dosage for Sodium Ferric Gluconate
I.V.:
Administer a test dose of 2ml Sodium ferric gluconate complex (25mg elemental iron) diluted in 50ml normal saline and given I.V. over 1 hour. If test dose is tolerated give therapeutic dose of 10ml (125mg elemental iron) diluted in 100ml normal saline and given I.V. over1 hour. Most patients require a minimum cumulative dose of 1gm of elemental iron administered at eight sequential dialysis treatments to achieve a favorable haemoglobin response.
