Anticoagulant,Thrombin inhibitor.
Mechanism of Action of Bivalirudin
Inhibits the action of thrombin by binding both to its catalytic site and to its anion-binding exosite of circulating and clot-bound thrombin.
Pharmacokinets of Bivalirudin
Absorption: It is not absorbed orally; Should be given parenterally.
Dstribution: drug distribution is limited to the intravascular compartment. Bivalirudin does not bind to plasma proteins, other than thrombin, or to red blood cells.
Metabolism: Metabolism of bivalirudin occurs in the liver or by other sites by means of proteolysis.
Excretion: Excreted as fragments in urine.

1.Anticoagulation in percutaneous coronary intervention
2.Anticoagulation in patients with unstable angina undergoing percutaneous intervention
3.Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
Interactions for Bivalirudin
May increase risk of bleeding when used with thrombolytics, oral anticoagulants or drugs that affect platelet function.
Typical Dosage for Bivalirudin
Adult: 750 mcg/kg by IV inj followed by an infusion of 1.75 mg/kg/hr during procedure and up to 4 hr postprocedure. If needed, may continue infusion at 0.2 mg/kg/hr for up to 20 hr.
