Dextran

About Dextran
A group of long-chain Polysaccharides composed of glucose,Intravenous fluids, Plasma expanders (((substitutes for whole blood))) in severe shock.
Mechanism of Action of Dextran
Dextran is a plasma volume expander which reduces blood viscosity. It forms a coating on RBC and maintains their electronegative charge and prevents RBC sludging that occurs in shock. It improves microcirculation. They are both osmotically active, and too large to pass through the uninjured vessel wall. They possess antiplatelet and anti-fibrin activities. They bind to platelets, RBCs, and the lining of the vessel wall decreasing their ability to stick together and forming clots.

Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose

About Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose
A semisynthetic, inert, viscoelastic polymer, Ophthalmic lubricant ,Artificial tears.
Mechanism of Action of Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose
Hydroxy Propyl methylcellulose belongs to the group of medicines known as artificial tears. Artificial tears are used to treat the keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dryness) and irritation in the eye. They are also used to moisten contact lenses and in eye examinations. These moisten lenses and remove particulate matter that causes irritation.
The surface active properties of the Hydroxy Propyl methyl cellulose (vehicles) found in artificial tears solutions act to stabilize the tear film and increase tear viscosity to prevent tear evaporation and retard tear drainage. The vehicles found in bland lubricant artificial tear ointments also enhance the tear film and additionally have a prolonged duration of action in the eye versus artificial tear solutions.
It is used to relieve dryness and irritation caused by reduced tear flow. It helps prevent damage to the eye in certain eye diseases. Hydroxy Propyl methylcellulose may also be used to moisten hard contact lenses and artificial eyes. In addition, it may be used in certain eye examinations
