1. Rabies infection of all category III exposures (single or multiple transdermal bites or scratches or contamination of mucous membrane with saliva), irrespective of the interval between exposure and beginning of treatment.

Typical Dosage for Rabies Immunoglobulin
Adults and children-
Post exposure-
Children and adults: 20 IU per kilogram body mass for Human rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG) or 40 IU/kg of body weight of Equine rabies immunoglobulin (ERIG) infiltrated in and around the wound as much as anatomically feasible but at a different anatomical site, as the vaccine. Administer the remainder of the dose by deep intramuscular injection at a site separate from that used for the vaccine. Ensure that the wound has been adequately infiltrated with immunoglobulin locally before suturing, if suturing is necessary.
