Absorption: 30-40% is absorbed ,vit D, enhances absorption.
Distribution: Crosses the placenta & distributes into breast milk.
Excretion: Excess calcium is mainly excreted renally. Unabsorbed calcium is eliminated in the faeces.

Indicated for the control of hyperphosphatemia in end stage renal failure and does not promote aluminum absorption.
Interactions for Calcium Acetate
1.Tetracycline antibiotics: concurrent administration may decrease the bioavailability of tetracyclines.
2.Calcium-containing foods or preparations, including dietary supplements or antacids:concurrent use may cause hypercalcemia; dietary calcium should be estimated daily initially and intake adjusted as needed.
3.Digitalis glycosides:concurrent use is not recommended because calcium acetate may cause hypercalcemia, which could precipitate cardiac arrhythmias.
Typical Dosage for Calcium Acetate
Adult: Initially 3-4 g daily. Usual range: 6-12 g daily.
