1.Most viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva including epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, and varicella, and also in mycobacterial infection of the eye and fungal diseases of ocular structures.
2.It is also contraindicated in individuals with known or suspected hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the preparation and to other corticosteroids.

Apply one or two drops of preparationt into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) every four to six hours. During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosing may be increased, to every one to two hours. Frequency should be decreased gradually as warranted by improvement in clinical signs. Care should be taken not to discontinue therapy prematurely.

Mechanism of Action of Tobramycin (Eye Prep.)
Tobramycin is a water soluble amino glycoside antibiotic active against a variety of ophthalmic bacterial pathogens.Tobramycin exerts its bactericidal action against gram- negative organisms & some of gram positive organisms by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. The process involves 1.Penetration of bacterial cell membrane & binding directly to the bacterial ribosome, 2.Misleading of m-RNA codon by bacterial ribosome, 3.Formation of peptide chains with wrong amino acid sequence which gets incorporated into bacterial cell membrane and alters its permeability, 4.Bacterial cell lysis. Some bacterial strains like pseudomonas are more sensitive to Tobramycin than Gentamicin

0.3% Tobramycin eye drops or ointment is used.
Eye Drops:
Mild to moderate disease: Instill 1 - 2 drops into the affected eye every 4 hours for 7 to 10 days.
In severe infections: Instill 2drops into the eye every 1 hour until improvement, and then reduce the dose.
Eye Ointment contains 3 mg/g Tobramycin
Mild to moderate disease: apply a 1 - 1.5 cm ribbon into the affected eye 2-3 times per day.
In severe infection, instill a 1 - 1.5 cm ribbon into the affected eye every 3 - 4 hours until improvement, and then reduce the dose.
