About PiperacillinA semisynthetic extended spectrum penicillin(ureidopenicillin), Antiboitic.Mechanism of Action of PiperacillinPiperacillin is a semi synthetic antipseudomonal Penicillin. It binds to the Penicillin binding protein in the cell wall of bacteria and inhibits the enzyme transpeptidase which is responsible for the transpeptidation reaction in peptidoglycan synthesis. It also activates the endogenous enzyme which degrades the peptidoglycan.These results in inhibition of protein synthesis and there by cell wall synthesis.Piperacillin is active against both gram positive and gram negative organism.Pharmacokinets of PiperacillinAbsorption .It is readily absorbed after parenteral administration.
Distribution: It is very widely distributed in the body.
Metabolism: It does not undergo metabolism.
Excretion: It is excreted mainly through urine and small amount excreted through bile and breast milk.

Bacterial infections: 100 - 300 mg/kg/day in 3 - 4 divided dose depending on the severity of infection

About TazobactamA Penicillanic acid sulfone beta-lactamase inhibitor, penams, To increase the antibacterial activity of penicillins against ?-lactamase?producing organisms.Mechanism of Action of TazobactamTazobactam is a Penicillanic acid sulfone beta lactamase inhibitor.Sulbactam has no significant antimicrobial activity, despite sharing the ?-lactam ring that is characteristic of beta-lactam antibiotics. This similarity in chemical structure helps the Tazobactam to act as a competitive inhibitor of beta-lactamase enzyme secreted by certain bacteria that are resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics.
