Mechanism of Action of Cycloserine
Cycloserine may be bactericidal or bacteriostatic depending on the concentration of the drug at the site of infection and the susceptibility of the organism towards the drug. Cycloserine is a D alanine analogue which is essential for peptidoglycan synthesis .It compete with D - alanine for two enzymes L- alanine racemase and D- alanyl alanine synthetase.These enzymes are required for incorporation of D- alanine in to peptidoglycan.These result in inhibition of cell wall formation

Absorption: It is orally well absorbed after oral administration.Distribution: It is very widely distributed in the body.Metabolism: Only a very small amount undergoes metabolism.Excretion: It is excreted primarily through urine and also through faeces and breast milk.

Interactions for Cycloserine
Alcohol: Incompatible, increase the possibility and risk of epileptic episodes.
Isoniazid: May result in increased cycloserine CNS side effects notably dizziness.

Typical Dosage for Cycloserine
Adult: 250 mg twice daily. The dose can be increased by 250 mg every 10 days. Maximum daily dose: 1 g
Children: 10 - 15 mg / kg body weight /day.
