Dextrose 5%

About Dextrose 5%
Intravenous injection / parenteral nutrient, a solution of Dextrose 5% in Water, Carbohydrate caloric nutritional supplement and fluid replenishment.
Mechanism of Action of Dextrose 5%
Dextrose restores blood glucose levels in hypoglycemia and provides a source of carbohydrate calories after IV injection. It decreases losses of body protein and nitrogen, promotes glycogen deposition, and prevents ketosis. It reverses CNS effects of hypoglycemia by rapidly increasing serum glucose levels.
Dextrose injection undergoes oxidation to carbon dioxide and water. Water is an essential constituent of all body tissues Average normal adult requirement ranges from two to three liters. Water balance is maintained by various regulatory mechanisms. Water distribution depends primarily on the concentration of electrolytes in the body compartments.

NaCl 0.33%

About NaCl 0.33%
IV solutions; It is given along with dextrose solution, A nonpyrogenic solution for fluid and electrolyte replenishment and caloric supply.
Mechanism of Action of NaCl 0.33%
This solution of sodium chloride in sterile water (contains Na+ and Cl-) create an oncotic gradient for expanding plasma volume. Then a greater percentage of the infused fluid stays within the vascular space and does not leak out into the extra vascular spaces. It would be available to rapidly rehydrate the extra vascular volumes in the extracellular fluid (ECF) and intracellular fluid (ICF) spaces.
It is a nonpyrogenic solution for fluid and electrolyte replenishment and caloric supply. It is given along with dextrose solution.
