Mechanism of Action of Itraconazole
Itraconazole is a fungicidal or fungistatic depending on the drug concentrations. It inhibits the conversion of Lanosterol to 14 demethyl Lanosterol by inhibiting the cytochromeP450 enzyme 14 alpha demethylase and impair ergosterol synthesis in fungi.

Typical Dosage for Itraconazole
Adult: 100 - 200 mg once or twice daily; duration of therapy varies from 1 day to 6 months
Aspergillosis: 200 - 400 mg once daily for 2 weeks
Oropharyngeal candidiasis: 200 mg in 20 ml solution daily for 7 - 14 days
Oesophageal candidiasis: 100 mg in 10 ml solution daily for 21 days
Onychomycosis: 200 mg once daily for 90 days
Vulvovaginal candidiasis: 400 mg / day in two divided dose for 1 day
