Mechanism of Action of Diethylcarbamazine
The drug exerts its action by altering micro filarial membrane which leads to their phagocytosis by tissue fixed monocytes of host. It also has an effect on muscular activity of micro filaria & adult worms causing hyperpolarisation and eventually they are dislodged.

Interactions for Diethylcarbamazine
Typical Dosage for Diethylcarbamazine
Starts with 1mg/kg on first day. Then 2mg/kg 8hourly for 1 to 3 weeks
The course may be repeated after 6 months.
In larva migrans: 3mg/kg/day for 3 weeks
For prophylaxis:0.3g/week.

Storage Requirements for Diethylcarbamazine
Store at 15 - 30 degree C in a tightly closed container. Keep out of the reach of children.
Effects of Missed Dosage of Diethylcarbamazine
Take the missed dose as soon as noticed and if it is the time for next dose then skip the missed dose. Continue the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Effects of Overdose of Diethylcarbamazine
In allergic manifestations due to the drug stops the drug and administer antihistaminics and glucocorticoids. Subsequent administration does not cause such reactions.
