About Imidapril

An ACE inhibitor, Antihypertensive.

Mechanism of Action of Imidapril

Imidapril is an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor prevents the conversion of angiotensin-I to angiotensin-II and abolishes the pressor actions of angiotensin. It dilates the arterioles. Both systolic and diastolic BP is lowered. It has no effect on cardiac output and cardiovascular reflexes. Incidence of cough is less as compared to Enalapril

Absorption: It is well absorbed after oral administration. Distribution: It is widely distributed in the body in protein bound form. Metabolism: It undergoes hydrolysis and produces active metabolite Imidaprilat. Excretion: It is excreted in urine and faeces.

Typical Dosage for Imidapril

Adult: 5mg / day, if needed dose can be increased to 10mg / day after 3 weeks. If blood pressure remains uncontrolled dose can be increased to 20mg /day and given with a diuretic.

Store at room temperature in a well closed container and protect from moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Effects of Missed Dosage of Imidapril

Take the missed dose as soon as noticed and if it is the time for next dose then skip the missed dose. Continue the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Effects of Overdose of Imidapril

Treatment is supportive and symptomatic. Drug can be removed by inducing emesis or by gastric lavage.
