Mechanism of Action of Tissue Type Plasminogen Activator (TPA)
It exerts it`s fibrinolytic action by activating natural fibrinolytic system. It causes lysis of thrombus or clot and thus recanalyses occluded blood vessels such as coronary artery. It selectively activates gel phase plasminogen; already bound to fibrin to active plasmin (fibrinolysin). Plasmin converts insoluble fibrin to soluble fibrin fragments.
