Mechanism of Action of Ziprasidone
The mechanism of action of Ziprasidone in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder is unknown. The proposed mechanism is that Ziprasidone acts by combination of partial agonist activity at Dopamine (D2) and Serotonin (5HT1A) receptor and a potent antagonist activity at 5HT2A receptor.

Absorption: Ziprasidone is absorbed after oral administration and its bioavailability is only 60 %
Distribution: Aripiprazole is extensively distributed in the body in protein bound form.
Metabolism: It undergoes metabolism in the liver by hepatic enzymes.
Excretion: Excreted mainly in faeces and small amount in urine also

Levodopa and dopamin agonists : Ziprasidone may antagonise their effects.
Antihypertensive agents : Ziprasidone may enhance the antihypertensive effect of some agents.
CNS depressants : Caution should be used when using in combination with ziprasidone.
Typical Dosage for Ziprasidone
Adult:
Schizophrenia: 40 mg / day in 2 divided doses. If needed dose can be gradually increased up to 160 mg / day
Maintenance dose: 40 mg / day in 2 divided doses.

Store it at 15 - 30 degree C in a tightly closed container.
Effects of Missed Dosage of Ziprasidone
Take the missed dose as soon as noticed. If it is the time for next dose then skip the missed dose and continue the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
