Pramipexole Pharmacology

Pramipexole

About Pramipexole
A nonergot Dopamine agonist, Antiparkinsonism.
Mechanism of Action of Pramipexole
Pramipexole is a non-ergot dopamine agonist. It stimulates Dopamine receptor in the striatum. It binds with high affinity to D3 receptors than D2 or D4 receptor subtypes.
It stimulates dopamine receptors in the striatum. It influences striatal neuronal firing rates via activation of dopamine receptors in the striatum and the substantia nigra. This produces the same effects as dopamine, and acts as a dopamine substitute. Pramipexole helps to restore the dopamine activity in the brain and reduce the symptoms of Parkinson`s disease. Pramipexole can be used in conjunction with Levodopa to treat Parkinson`s disease.
