Terfenadine

About Terfenadine
Second generation histamine H1 antagonist, Benzhydryl derivative, Antihistamine.
Mechanism of Action of Terfenadine
Terfenadine competitively bind to the histamine H1-receptors on the GI tract, uterus, large blood vessels, and bronchial muscle. This reversible binding of terfenadine suppresses the formation of edema, flare, and pruritis resulting from histaminic activity. In large dose it also inhibits cardiac potassium channels.
Pharmacokinets of Terfenadine
Absorption- Moderately absorbed after oral administration.
Distribution- Widely distributed in the body. 70% bound to the plasma Proteins.
Metabolism- Metabolized in the liver to its metabolites. Fexofenadine is its active metabolite.
Excretion- Excreted via urine and feces.

Pseudoephedrine

About Pseudoephedrine
Alpha/Beta Adrenergic Agonist, a phenethylamine derivative, A nasal decongestant.
Mechanism of Action of Pseudoephedrine
It is a nasal decongestant with alpha-2 agonistic action. It produces local vasoconstriction, reduces blood flow, and causes shrinkage of mucosa which provides relief of nasal congestion. It reduces oedema of the nasal mucosa, thus improving ventilation, drainage and nasal stuffiness.
Pharmacokinets of Pseudoephedrine
Absorption: Well absorbed orally, Distribution: Widely distributed throughout the body, Metabolism: Partially metabolized in liver by N-demethylation, Excretion: Excreted through urine mainly as unchanged drug and also as metabolites.
